All the Papers have a Very Big Value
Saturday, October 24 · 11 AM - 1 PM · Cobble Hill
A two-hour workshop exploring the restoration of Al Hakeem, Palestine's first Arabic printing press established after the Nakba. The event begins with a screening and conversation about the press's history, then moves into hands-on paper engineering and collage work.
Participants will construct miniature "printing machines" from paper, cardboard, and found materials—drawing techniques from the film's animation process to cut, layer, and assemble images of printing blocks, letters, gears, and machine parts into functioning paper sculptures that mimic a working press.
The workshop invites reflection on diaspora: what is preserved, what is lost, and how creative acts of reconstruction can keep histories alive. Work individually or collaboratively; all materials provided. FMFM is a small Brooklyn studio space. In-person only. Refunds available up to 7 days before the event.
