Community Guidelines
Last updated June 2026
At Menna, we're committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive community where meaningful connections flourish. These guidelines ensure that every member of our SWANA community can participate safely and respectfully, both in our digital spaces and at in-person meetups.
We use a combination of automated tools and human moderation to maintain community standards. We also rely on our community to help us identify violations through the in-app report feature.
Please note: Violations may result in warnings, temporary restrictions, permanent removal from the platform, or in serious cases, involvement of law enforcement. These guidelines form part of our Terms of Service.
Profile Requirements
Age verification. All members must be at least 18 years old. Misrepresentation of age may result in immediate account termination. We may, in some cases, request government-issued identification to verify a member's identity or age, for example, in response to a serious report.
Authentic identity. Use your real name and upload a clear, recent photo of yourself. Profiles with heavily filtered images, text overlays, group photos as the primary image, or memes are not accepted.
Contact information. Verify your email address. This helps us maintain account security and community integrity.
One account per person. Each individual may maintain only one active account. Multiple accounts or impersonation of others is prohibited.
Behavioral Standards
Respectful communication. Treat all community members with kindness and respect. Harassment, bullying, intimidation, or targeted abuse will not be tolerated.
Example: Making repeated derogatory comments about another member's appearance, profession, or personal choices creates a hostile environment.
No hate speech or discrimination. We celebrate diversity. Content or behavior that promotes hatred, dehumanization, or discrimination based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, or medical condition is prohibited.
Example: Using slurs, making degrading generalizations about protected groups, or advocating for exclusion based on identity characteristics is unacceptable.
Sexual content and conduct. No sexually explicit content, solicitation of sexual services, or unwelcome sexual advances. This includes sending unsolicited intimate images, making objectifying comments, or propositioning other members.
Example: Sending explicit photos after an event, making persistent sexual comments despite being asked to stop, or offering to sell adult services through the platform.
Violence and threats. Any threats of violence, promotion of violent behavior, or sharing of graphic violent content is strictly forbidden, including threats made "as a joke."
Child safety. Any content that sexualizes, endangers, or exploits minors is absolutely prohibited and will be reported to authorities.
Illegal activity. Do not use Menna to facilitate, promote, or coordinate illegal activities, including drug sales, weapons trafficking, fraud, or any criminal enterprise.
Commercial restrictions. Menna is a community, not a marketplace. Spam, unsolicited commercial promotions, pyramid schemes, and unauthorized business solicitations are not permitted.
Example: Attending events primarily to sell products, recruit for multi-level marketing, or pitch investment opportunities.
Misinformation. Do not deliberately spread false information, conspiracy theories, or misleading content that could harm individuals or the community.
Privacy and consent. Respect others' privacy. Do not share personal information, photos, or conversations involving other members without their explicit consent.
Meetup Participation
Attendance commitment. If you are approved for a meetup, we expect you to attend. If you can't make it, cancel with reasonable notice. Repeated no-shows or late cancellations negatively affect hosts and other members and may result in restrictions on your ability to join future meetups. Hosts who cancel with less than 48 hours notice without a genuine emergency, or who fail to show up to a meetup they created, may have their hosting privileges suspended or permanently removed.
No unauthorized guests. Your approved spot is for you alone. Bringing unregistered guests disrupts intimate gatherings and is not permitted.
Appropriate behavior at meetups. Arrive on time, participate genuinely, and contribute to a positive atmosphere. Excessive intoxication, disruptive behavior, or making others uncomfortable is grounds for removal, from the meetup and potentially from the platform.
Safety first. If you feel unsafe at any meetup, leave and contact us at hello@itsmenna.com. Your wellbeing is our top priority.
Host Responsibilities
Hosting a Menna meetup is a commitment to the people who show up for it. As a host, you agree to:
- Show up, always. Your attendees made real plans. Cancelling without reasonable notice or failing to appear is a serious violation of community trust and will result in hosting privileges being suspended or permanently removed.
- Arrive before your guests. Hosts are expected to arrive at least 10 minutes before the listed start time and to remain until the meetup has concluded.
- Create an inclusive space. Every attendee should feel welcome and seen. It is the host's responsibility to ensure no one is left on the sidelines of the conversation.
- Communicate with your attendees. Use the group chat to welcome RSVPs, share logistics, and follow up after the meetup.
- Report issues to Menna directly. If something goes wrong, a conduct violation, a safety concern, or an incident, report it to Menna at hello@itsmenna.com. Do not address it publicly in the group chat.
Our Community
Menna is built for the full breadth of the SWANA community, Arab, Persian, Turkish, Armenian, Kurdish, North African, and all people and cultures within this region. No single subculture is centered above others.
We ask every member to leave sectarianism, political divisions, and regional tensions at the door. This is a space built on what we share, not what divides us. Behavior that imports those divisions into Menna, in the app, in group chats, or at meetups, is a violation of these guidelines.
Mockery, stereotyping, or dismissal of any SWANA culture, language, religion, or tradition is not welcome here.
Reporting and Blocking
If you witness or experience behavior that violates these guidelines:
- Report the user from their profile. All reports are confidential and reviewed by our moderation team.
- Block the user from their profile. They will no longer be able to see your profile or the meetups you host, and they will not be able to apply to your meetups.
You can manage the list of users you've blocked anytime in Profile → Account → Blocked users.
Reports help us protect the whole community. Please report violations, not mere disagreements or differences of opinion.
Account Maintenance
Inactive accounts. We may, at our discretion, remove accounts that have been inactive for an extended period (typically more than two years) to maintain platform integrity. We will attempt to notify inactive members before any deletion.
Account responsibility. You are responsible for all activity on your account. Keep your login credentials secure and contact us immediately at hello@itsmenna.com if you suspect unauthorized access.
Wellbeing Support
We prohibit content that glorifies self-harm or dangerous behaviors. We recognize that members may wish to share personal mental health experiences; such discussions are welcome when conducted sensitively and constructively. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please contact local emergency services or a mental health support resource.
Our Commitment
These guidelines will evolve with our community. We will update them as needed and notify members of meaningful changes. Your feedback helps us build a better platform, reach out anytime at hello@itsmenna.com.
