Last updated May 2026
Welcome to Menna ("Menna," "we," "our," or "us"). Menna is operated by MENNA LLC, a New York limited liability company.
Your privacy matters to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have when you use the Menna mobile app, our website (itsmenna.com), and any other service that links to this Policy (together, the "Service").
1. Information We Collect
We collect information in three ways: information you give us, information we collect automatically when you use the Service, and information we receive from third-party services you connect to your account.
a) Information you provide directly
When you create an account, complete your profile, host or join a meetup, subscribe to a paid membership, or contact us, we may collect:
Account & authentication
- Email address and password (passwords are stored only as a one-way hash; we never see your plaintext password)
- If you sign in with Apple or Google, the unique identifier and verified email those providers return to us
Profile
- Full name
- Profile photo (stored in Menna's encrypted cloud storage)
- A short bio
- Neighborhood
- Heritage information, SWANA country connections and other cultural backgrounds, with your explicit consent at the time of collection. You can update, remove, or withdraw this consent at any time from your profile.
- Event category preferences and favorite artists
- Optional Instagram and TikTok handles
Meetups and community content
- Meetup titles, descriptions, dates, venues, cover photos, and capacity, when you host a meetup
- The optional short message you attach when you request to join a meetup
- Messages you post in a meetup's group chat
- Events you save, applications you submit, and meetups you attend
Subscriptions and purchases
- Your subscription status (active, expired, etc.) and transaction identifiers from Apple or Google. Apple and Google process all payments, Menna never sees or stores your full payment card details.
Moderation
- Reports you submit about other members (the user reported, the reason, and any details you provide)
- The list of users you have blocked
Newsletter and event submissions
- Email address and contact details when you subscribe to the newsletter or submit an event for editorial review on itsmenna.com
b) Information collected automatically
When you use the Service, we automatically collect:
- Device information, device type, operating system, app version, language, and time zone
- A push notification token issued by Apple or Google, used to deliver notifications to your device
- Approximate location at the city level, inferred from your IP address or device locale (we do not collect precise GPS location)
- Diagnostic and crash logs, to keep the app stable
- On itsmenna.com, standard web analytics, IP, browser type, pages visited, and referring links. You can disable cookies in your browser settings.
c) Information from third-party services
If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the identifiers and verified email described above. We do not receive your password.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Create and maintain your account
- Show your profile, hosted meetups, and contributions to other members in line with the visibility rules described below
- Match you with relevant events and meetups
- Process and confirm paid memberships
- Send push notifications about meetup applications, decisions, messages, and other in-app activity
- Send transactional emails (account verification, password resets, receipts)
- Send the newsletter, if you opted in (you can unsubscribe anytime via the link in any newsletter email)
- Moderate the community, investigate reports, and enforce our Terms and Community Guidelines
- Diagnose problems, improve the Service, and develop new features
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your personal information.
3. Visibility of Your Information
- Your profile, hosted meetups, and meetup contributions are visible to other paid members of Menna in accordance with the in-app visibility settings, including blocking, which limits what blocked users can see about you.
- Heritage information (SWANA countries / cultural backgrounds) is shown on your profile and on event detail pages, but is never displayed in meetup contexts.
- Reports you submit are confidential and shared only with our moderation team.
- Newsletter subscriptions on the website are not linked to your in-app identity unless you used the same email.
4. Third-Party Services
We rely on a small set of trusted providers to operate the Service. They process information on our behalf, under contract, and only as needed to provide their services:
- Supabase, hosts our database, storage (avatars, photos), and authentication infrastructure
- RevenueCat, manages subscription state and reconciles purchases with Apple and Google
- Apple App Store / Google Play, processes payments for paid memberships
- Apple Push Notification service / Firebase Cloud Messaging, delivers push notifications
- Expo, provides over-the-air updates and push notification routing for the mobile app
- Beehiiv (or a comparable provider), delivers the newsletter
We may also disclose information when required by law, to enforce our Terms, to protect the rights, safety, or property of Menna or others, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (with notice to you where required).
We do not share your personal information for third-party advertising or marketing.
5. Data Retention
- Account data, kept for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Account → Delete account, or by emailing hello@itsmenna.com. Deletion removes your profile, hosted meetups, applications, messages, push tokens, blocks, and reports submitted by you, and revokes your subscription where possible. Some information may be retained for legal or accounting purposes for a limited period.
- Meetup chat messages, meetup group chats become read-only approximately 24 hours after the meetup ends. Messages remain visible to participants of that meetup unless removed.
- Reports and moderation records, retained for as long as needed to enforce our Terms and Community Guidelines, and to meet legal obligations.
- Backups, full database backups are retained for a short rolling window (typically up to 30 days) for disaster recovery.
6. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information
- Delete your account and associated data
- Withdraw consent (for example, to heritage data collection)
- Object to or restrict certain uses of your information
- Receive a portable copy of your information

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@itsmenna.com. We will respond within a reasonable time and as required by applicable law.
7. Children's Privacy
Menna is intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a person under 18 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will remove the account.
8. Data Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit, encryption at rest in our database and storage, limited internal access, and trusted service providers. No online system is perfectly secure; we encourage you to use a strong, unique password and to keep your device locked.
