Arabic Calligraphy: The Art of Language w/ Aiyah Sibay

A two-and-a-half-hour workshop in the ancient art of Arabic calligraphy, grounded in somatic practice and feminist reclamation. You'll begin with breathwork and meditation, then move into the technical foundations of reed and ink — learning the letterforms and rhythms that have shaped Arabic visual language for centuries.

Aiyah Sibay is a Syrian-American writer and visual artist whose work centers the stories of Arab women, using poetry, textile, and audiovisuals to surface narratives that have been historically silenced. She's the independent founder of Tribeless, a project devoted to SWANA literature and poetry through hand-painted designs and the preservation of the region's spiritual and erotic literary canon. This workshop carries that ethos — it offers a feminine approach to a medium historically dominated by men, with space to study and experiment with the work of female calligraphers and artists who've pushed the form.

Expect a closing reading of poetry from the region and practical guidance for developing your own long-term practice beyond the session. The room is intimate and in-person; refunds are available up to seven days before the event.
