Arabic Music Ensemble (Takht) Workshop

Brooklyn Maqam is launching its first Takht Ensemble Workshop series—a six-week deep dive into one of Arabic music's most storied chamber formats. The takht, a traditional ensemble that's been the backbone of Levantine and Egyptian musical life for centuries, brings together oud, qanun, ney, and percussion in intimate, conversational arrangements. You'll meet weekly with a professional facilitator to learn repertoire, technique, and the listening skills that make this music breathe.

This is hands-on training in a living tradition, not a lecture. Whether you're picking up an instrument for the first time or you've been playing for years, the workshop builds ensemble literacy—how to listen, respond, and create space for each voice. Brooklyn Maqam, rooted in the city's Arab music community, brings both rigor and generosity to this work.
