November Oil Painting for Beginners (3 session course)
Tuesday, November 17 – 24 · 7:00 PM (Tue Nov 17), 11:00 AM (Sat Nov 21), 6:30 PM (Tue Nov 24) · Williamsburg
A three-session introduction to oil painting, designed for complete beginners. You'll move through color theory and mixing, underpainting, glazing, and layering — all the foundational techniques that let you paint with confidence. By the end, you'll have made your own oil painting and know how to keep going on your own.
Natasha Jahchan, a Lebanese American designer and structural engineer, leads the class. Her practice spans oil painting, product design, and photography — she's also the founder of Atelier Dalal. She teaches hands-on, one-on-one, in a small group setting. Expect to watch yourself and your classmates develop real skills over the three weeks.
All materials are provided — paints, brushes, solvents, canvas, easels, the works. You'll work from direct observation and photographs, learning how to set up a palette, mix any color, handle a brush, and build form using value and color. The class emphasizes a welcoming, encouraging community. No experience necessary; beginners are actively encouraged. If you can't make one session, reach out to arrange a makeup class.
