Birds of War
Wednesday, November 4 · 6:30 PM · Greenwich Village
A documentary spanning 13 years of revolution, war, and exile — from besieged Aleppo to a London newsroom. Lebanese journalist Janay Boulos and Syrian activist and cameraman Abd Alkader Habak relive their war reporting and their unexpected love story, drawing on a vast personal archive of footage and photographs.
Boulos and Habak are both the filmmakers and the subjects here, which gives the film an intimate, lived-in quality. They're documenting their own experience as journalists covering the Syrian conflict while falling in love — a rare dual perspective on both the political upheaval and the personal stakes of bearing witness.
The film screens in Arabic with English subtitles and English-language segments. On Wednesday, November 4, there's a Q&A with Boulos and Habak after the 6:30 PM showing. Additional showtimes for the run (November 4–10) will be announced. 88 minutes, DCP format.
