Intro to Stab-Binding
Tuesday, October 20 · 6–9pm · Flatiron
Learn stab binding, an East Asian bookbinding technique that uses thread as both fastener and ornament to create geometric patterns. In this three-hour workshop, you'll master 4-hole and noble stab binding methods, study artists' books using these techniques, and walk out with two finished books of your own.
Effrat Hakimi (she/her) is a Brooklyn-based multidisciplinary artist and educator whose practice spans contemporary feminist thinking, Arab-Jewish narratives, and their intersection with art and media. She holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has exhibited at institutions including the Israel Museum in Jerusalem and the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. Her recent honors include the Mandel Cultural Leadership Program and the New Jewish Culture Fellowship.
Class is capped at 12 people to keep the instructor ratio intimate. Bring a pencil and paper; the center provides most materials, though you can bring your own bonefolder, awl, snap-off blade, ruler, needle, and binder clips if you have them. Registration closes October 13 at 11:59pm ET—only 2 seats remain.
