Akbar Shahid Ahmed & Rozina Ali: Crossing the Red Line; Seasons of Fury
Friday, November 6 · 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM · Brooklyn Heights
Two award-winning journalists in conversation about their latest books on Gaza, U.S. foreign policy, and the War on Terror's impact on Muslim communities.
Akbar Shahid Ahmed is the diplomatic correspondent at The Washington Sun, and his new book Crossing the Red Line is a deeply reported account of how the Biden administration enabled Israeli military operations in Gaza—with extensive reporting on how Washington ignored warnings from government experts and kept weapons flowing despite the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding. Rozina Ali, a contributing writer at New York Times Magazine, has written Seasons of Fury, a sweeping narrative history of the U.S. government's broken compact with Muslim citizens, tracing surveillance and violence from the 1960s through the post-9/11 era. Both writers bring years of foreign policy and investigative journalism to bear on how American policy has shaped the Middle East and Muslim communities at home.
Each ticket includes either a copy of one of the featured books or a $10 gift card to Books Are Magic. Additional copies will be available for purchase, and both authors will sign books after the talk. The event will also be livestreamed free on YouTube. Books Are Magic is a small, welcoming bookstore in Brooklyn Heights; doors open at 6:30 PM.
