Garod Collective Presents: Posthumous Traces
Wednesday, September 16 · 7:00 PM · Fort Greene
Garod Collective presents five short films by Armenian women spanning three decades, exploring themes of family, parenthood, and identity through the lens of loss.
These filmmakers depict loss in many forms: from the surreal experience of postpartum depression, to a daughter watching her mother slowly slip away, to a cemetery groundskeeper grieving his own past. Using experimental and conventional narratives, the filmmakers present mythical images of a homeland constantly out of reach, and imagine the lives of fathers they have never known. An exercise in remembering, these works trace intimate threads of connection in danger of fading away.
Founded by Cynthia Nahhas and Nanor Vosgueritchian, Garod Collective hosts Armenian cultural events in New York City, acting as a space to introduce, build, or revitalize connections to Armenian culture, language, and tradition.
Followed by a Q&A with Anahid Yahjian, director of Domestic Demon
