menna salon 01: Jinn Flickers Through History
Saturday, September 19 · 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM · Williamsburg
Menna Salon, Vol. I — The Launch Menna is stepping off the screen and into the room. After a year of building a community of curious, creative, culturally-hungry SWANA New Yorkers, we're hosting our first-ever in-person event and the official launch of the Menna Salon: a space for people who love SWANA culture to meet and learn. The evening unfolds in two parts. First, a social hour. Gather around an art-directed food installation, a glass of SWANA wine or a zero-proof pour, and the people you've been meaning to meet. Time to wander, connect, and find your kind of person. We've been lucky to build a community of thinkers, makers, and the endlessly curious, and this is the night we finally put them in the same room. Then, the talk. An hour of intellectual expansion with Beeta Baghoolizadeh, Princeton Professor, on the supernatural world in SWANA culture. What can jinn tell us about the past? Jinn, or genies, have long been valued and feared for their magical powers. Together we'll trace how they flicker through history, and how their presence, and their absence, quietly shaped the social worlds around them. A talk, an open Q&A, and plenty to carry home. Come thirsty, for wine and for ideas. 📍 [Williamsburg]. 🗓 [Saturday Sep 19th] 🕖 [6-8pm] Wine generously poured by Terra Sancta, menna official wine partner.
