WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED: Defending Dissent & Building Resistance to Political Repression
Saturday, October 24 · 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM · Hell's Kitchen
A three-hour forum on political repression, censorship, and resistance — organized by the Ida B. Wells Media Defense Network at a moment when dissent itself is under attack. The event draws on the legacy of Ida B. Wells to ask not just how political expression is being silenced, but how we organize collectively to defend it.
The speakers include Vijay Prashad, a historian and journalist who directs the Tricontinental Institute for Social Research; Dr. Charisse Burden-Stelly, a historian and political economist whose work examines capitalist racism in the United States; and Omali Yeshitela, a longtime Black liberation activist and chairman of the African People's Socialist Party, whose prosecution as one of the Uhuru 3 has raised urgent questions about the state's use of the law to suppress organizing.
The forum is hybrid — attend in person in a community space in Manhattan, or join online. It's free, and tickets are available in advance or at the door.
