Khalid Razick

A trombonist blending Palestinian folk, Arabic classical, and jazz — the kind of intimate trio where you can hear every note shift and breath. Khalid Razick is a NYC-based musician whose debut EP 'Eternal Flame' weaves Palestinian melodies into jazz improvisation, and he's spent time teaching at the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music in Palestine, which tells you something about where his roots are.

Razick co-directs Souq El-Jum3a Collective, a Boston-based group lifting up Arabic music and culture. He's played the Panama Jazz Festival in front of thousands but feels just as at home in intimate rooms — and in fact has taught masterclasses everywhere from the Edward Said Conservatory to county jails, because he believes in music's power to open doors. Expect a set that moves between classical maqam and contemporary jazz without warning, with the trombone doing things you don't usually hear it do in this context.

Small room, $20 at the door, doors open early if you want a good seat. This is the kind of night where the room goes quiet the moment the horn starts.
