Of Your Tenderness
Wednesday, November 18 · 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM · Greenwich Village
A powerful documentary about a daughter's relentless search for truth after her father's forced disappearance under Syria's Hafez Al-Assad regime. The film mirrors the stories of countless families torn apart by state violence, weaving personal grief into a broader reckoning with historical trauma.
Directed by Waad Al-Kateab and Wafa Mustafa, both Syrian filmmakers whose work has centered on documenting resistance and resilience in the face of authoritarian violence. Al-Kateab is known for her unflinching documentary practice; Mustafa brings cinematographic precision to intimate, difficult subjects. The film is produced by Joanna Natasegara, with executive producers Nevine Mabro, Sawsan Asfari, and Rasha Mansouri — a team grounded in Arab and international documentary practice.
This is the NYC premiere, screening as part of DOC NYC 2026's shorts program "We Belong Together." The first screening will be followed by a Q&A with directors Al-Kateab and Mustafa, and producer Natasegara — a rare chance to hear directly from the filmmakers about the process of documenting disappeared persons and family memory. The film is in English and Arabic.
