Boomerang Atomic

Rachid Bouchareb's documentary examines colonialism through the untold story of French atomic bomb testing in the Algerian desert. Using archival footage, the film makes a sharp point about imperialism's continuity — how the machinery of extraction and exploitation simply changes its name across decades, bringing into focus similar events happening today.

Bouchareb, an Algerian-French filmmaker, directs and cinematographs the work alongside producer Bilal Bouchareb. Composer Amine Bouhafa scores the film. The first screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Rachid Bouchareb and producer Bilal Bouchareb — a chance to dig into the research and the film's argument about power and repetition.

This is the NYC premiere, screening as part of the Shorts: Hidden Histories program at DOC NYC 2026. The venue provides sound amplification headphones upon request, and T-Coil loop access for compatible devices.
