Here, Already
Tuesday, November 10 · 7:00 PM · Crown Heights
A screening of three short films exploring love, desire, and identity across continents and cultures, followed by a discussion with the artists.
Salad Hilowle's Passion of Remembrance (2020, 26 min) moves through Swedish television and pop culture from the 1990s, examining how Black artists like Dr. Alban and Leila K were celebrated for their contributions while still treated as outsiders. Ahmed Umar's Truth Bears No Scandal (2024, 12 min) revisits three well-known Sudanese songs with hidden queer love stories — songs written by men for their male lovers and women for their female lovers — bringing these narratives to the fore as part of Sudan's cultural heritage. Samira Elagoz and Z Walsh's You Can't Get What You Want but You Can Get Me (2024, 13 min) is a slideshow documenting two trans men falling in love over the course of a year, a sweet and steamy celebration of T4T intimacy.
The screening brings together Ekroth (curator), Elagoz, and Walsh for a post-film discussion. Elagoz is a Finnish-Egyptian transmasculine artist based between Berlin, New York, and Helsinki; Walsh is a Brooklyn-based photographer and director recognized for his intimate portraits and commitment to documenting transgender beauty.
The space has two flights of stairs at the front entrance, but elevator access is available — RSVP to program@e-flux.com for freight elevator entry. The building has an ADA-compliant bathroom with no steps between it and the screening room.
