Plant Ecologies and Migration

A panel discussion exploring how immigrant and diasporic artists use plants and gardens as frameworks for thinking through migration, displacement, and belonging. The conversation centers on the entanglement of botanical histories with colonial networks of trade, empire, and labor—and how plants become metaphors for questioning borders and citizenship.

The panel brings together three artists: Bahar Behbahani, an Iranian-born artist and educator whose practice centers the Persian garden as a site where cultural memory, exile, and political history converge; Rachelle Dang, who investigates how plants and agricultural knowledge move across diasporic networks, revealing connections to labor and colonialism; and Sujin Lim, whose work examines the material and symbolic lives of plants as reflections on care, adaptation, and belonging. Together they demonstrate how taxonomic categories like "native" and "invasive" mirror the language used to regulate human movement and determine who belongs.

Hosted by Residency Unlimited as part of Identity Card, The Immigrant Art. Free admission; expect a thoughtful, artist-led conversation in a gallery setting.
