Notes from Daughters Art Exhibition - Performance Evening

An intimate evening where sound, language, and movement converge inside a group art exhibition exploring daughterhood, inheritance, and repair. Eighteen contemporary women artists from more than ten countries create the backdrop for an evening of live performance.

Mehrnam Rastegari, a NYC-based Persian musician and master kamancheh player, leads the musical portion. Her work braids Persian classical traditions with rock and psychedelia — she's performed at the UN, WOMEX, and GlobalFest, and appears on Jon Batiste's Grammy-nominated album World Music Radio. She'll be joined by three poets: Jordan E. Franklin, a Brooklyn-born writer with an MFA from Stony Brook Southampton; Jane LeCroy, a New York–based poet and performance artist who sets her work to music with experimental projects; and Leah Kogen-Elimeliah, a Moscow-born, New York–based poet, filmmaker, and founder of WordShed Productions. Lili Tewes, a Hamburg-born dancer trained at the Martha Graham School with principal performance credits, rounds out the evening with choreographed movement.

Expect a small, intimate room — two hours of performance with no intermission. The exhibition remains on view, so you can arrive early to walk through the work before the performance begins.
