Arabic Calligraphy Workshop with Khalid Casado
Saturday, October 17 · 11 AM - 4 PM · Chelsea
Master calligrapher Khalid Casado is leading an all-day immersion in classical Arabic calligraphy in New York—materials provided, all levels welcome, and advanced students can refine their technique on traditional tools.
Casado trained for six years under Nuria Garcia Masip and received his icacet (master's license) in Istanbul. He exhibits internationally—Sharjah, Medina, Barcelona, Washington DC, Mexico City—and brings a distinctive eye to composition while honoring the classical form. The Reed Society for the Sacred Arts, which partners with institutions like the Smithsonian and Kennedy Center, is hosting this workshop with support from NYC-based calligrapher Asad Husain.
Expect a serious studio day on the third floor of a Chelsea building. Bring nothing but yourself; qalams, ink, and paper are all there. Five hours of focused work, the kind that quiets the mind.
