Cinema Tehran Presents: Chicken with Plums
Tuesday, October 6 · 9:30 PM · Tribeca
Marjane Satrapi's Chicken with Plums is a bittersweet animated feature that drifts through memory, music, and loss in 1958 Tehran. After his beloved violin is broken, renowned musician Nasser Ali Khan loses his will to live, confined to bed as he moves through dreams of youth, family, and the great love that inspired his art—a meditation on desire, mortality, and what we leave behind.
Satrapi, the acclaimed Iranian-Swiss cartoonist and filmmaker behind Persepolis, co-directed this adaptation of her own graphic novel with Vincent Paronnaud. The film features a stellar international cast including Mathieu Amalric, Goshafteh Farahani, and Isabella Rossellini, moving between intimate domestic scenes and surreal sequences that blur the line between waking and dreaming.
Roxy Cinema, an Art Deco arthouse in downtown Manhattan, specializes in rare prints and cult classics with a gourmet concession stand serving craft cocktails. This screening is presented as an in memoriam tribute to Satrapi (1969–2026). Tickets range $12–$19; arrive early for the full lobby experience.
